Alternate Ending-

Nora : [picking up her bag] : Oh, Torvald - there would have to the greatest miracle of all
Helmer : Oh my love please, please, please tell me what would it be
Nora : You would have to divorce me ...
Helmer : [looks down] : Divorce ? Divorce Nora ! After all I did for you, for the past eight years. Why divorce me now?
Nora : Ive been suppressing this for a while now, I just feel this way because you never treat me like you wife, you talk to me like I'm one of your children, for the past eight years you've been controlling my life and I can't let that happen anymore. I'm a woman who is tired of getting treated like a nobody. The way you treat me is like your looking at a stick, a helpless stick, a stick that can't do anything.
Helmer : Nora why didn't you tell me you felt this way? I really felt a capricious change in your marriage. Its like we both drifted away from each other . I feel like this is my fault because I've never gave you the chance to express yourself to me. basically I've never really gotten to know the real you..
Nora : [ sits down at the table] : Helmer , I've tried to stave the feelings that i have for you.
Helmer : Why do such a thing?
Nora : Ive been doing that because I'm not happy and I don't want to feel sorry for you at this very moment
Helmer : mhmm I see... where are you going to go to live ?
[Door knocks]
Maid : Sir, Dr.Rank is here may he come into your study?
Helmer : Yes he may enter
Dr.Rank : [Looks at Nora] : Did you tell him yet hunny?
Nora : No I haven't, I was about to , but then you came, so I shall tell him now
Helmer : Tell me what ? [Confused]
Nora : uhhh Torvald... Im leaving you for Dr.Rank, he's the type of person to give me a chance to see the world and he understands my need. He's the man that I want to be with.
Helmer : [Drinks a glass of water] OH MY.. isn't he dying .. when he's dead how are you going to support yourself... Nora do you hear the madness that your saying?
Nora : Dr.Rank isn't dying anymore, he found a cure to his sickness , and it was all a stage act , to put on for you.
Helmer : You are a very brutal woman Nora , how am I supposed to explain this to the kids ?
Nora : Im sure you'll find a way somehow.. anyways I have the Divorce papers right here, do you mind signing them now?
Helmer : [Slams glass to the floor] [he screams] : GET OUT OF MY HOUSE NOW , NEVER RETURN HERE AGAIN, YOUR ALREADY DEAD TO ME, [points to Dr.Rank] AFTER ALL I DID FOR YOU , YOU DO THIS TO ME !!!! LEAVE RIGHT NOW!!
[Nora and Dr.Rank flew out the door into the streets] 
Nora : Do you think he'll remain angry ?
Dr.Rank : Obviously, you just left him for me..
[Nora and Dr.Rank both were in love and wanted a new beginning]

Act II of "A Doll's House"-

To being with I think that it was very disreputable how Nora spoke to Dr.Rank. "Flesh colored - aren't they lovely? The light's bad in here now, but tomorrow... no,no,no you must only look at the feet, oh well you may see the rest too" (Ibsen 193). The way she spoke to him was disgusting. We all know that all she wanted was to use him for his money. "Well Nora, now you know and you know, that you can trust me more that anyone else" (Ibsen 194). When Dr.Rank confessed his love for Nora it was weird because supposedly he felt that just because Nora was nice to him all those years, it was a way of showing how she liked him. After Nora found out about his love for her, she stopped leading him on. I guess she didn't want him to feel like she needed him. Nora couldn't take it anymore she was getting intolerable. When Dr.Rank said " You and Torvald will, when I'm gone. It looks to me as if you're starting already" (Ibsen 192). BEFORE all his love was exposed to Nora, I bet he felt excruciating saying that because he already knew how he felt for Nora, and leaving without seeing her again would break his heart. I felt that it came out by mistake because without Nora putting her "Fastness" towards him, it would of stayed a secret and she wouldn't have known about it.

Secondly, I don't think that Nora would commit suicide because she has her children to think about. If she does it would be stupid, why kill yourself for a selfish mistake? Helmer might take the blame for her because she really did it to help him. Without that help from her he would of still been sick. OBVIOUSLY he would be angry because she lied to him like a criminal would lie to cover up the TRUTH. Her life basically was lying to her husband everyday, and asking for money. NOW Nora understands the consequences she would have to face, she would either have to end her life or live her life a lie... IT'S UP TO HER NOW.. HER DECISIONS.. HER ACTIONS... HER LIFE...

Act I of "A Doll's House"- 

My opinion on Nora and Helmer's relationship is that he treats her as if thats his daughter, the way he talks to her " Is that my little skylark twittering out there?". I find that very surprising because in todays century husbands and wives approach there spouses differently. Nora's character is ravishing, she's still young and attractive. The way Helmer treats her is like she's stupid or like I said before as if that was his daughter for example "Scampering about like a little squirrel". I would not like anyone talking to me like that, i find that unusual and uncomfortable. Also Nora shouldn't lie to her husband like that because once you lie it leads to another and when you lie it will cover up the truth for an amount of time until it comes out. To her husband she's frivolous, or at least thats how she acts around him. One minute she acts innocent around her husband but behind closed doors she isn't. She acts innocent but in her mind she knows what she's doing. Believe it or not this actually surprises me because I've never read a story with a twist like this. 

The interactions between Krogstad and Nora is surprising because when your reading about them you would've never known that they actually knew each other. If I was in Nora's situation I would eventually tell my husband where I really got the money from, instead of lying and bringing more lies into my "happy home". I basically think that Helmer has no clue what will come at him, if she tells him or he finds out. He would be ashamed of his wife because she went behind his back and did a scheme full thing. I don't that would ruin his reputation because she did it to help him. All she has to do is tell him the truth. When Nora forged her fathers signature she should of thought about what she was doing because she got caught for lying and forging it. She did what she had to do ... HOUSE FULL OF LIES ... SHE CORRUPTED HER ENTIRE MARRIAGE AND FAMILY.. JUST BY TELLING ONE LIE.. (in my opinion) ...  

Hi I'm Shanna Christopher and what I liked the most about english class was reading the short stories from the book "Interpreter of Maladies". I like the short stories because of the characters, settings, and how the stories was being told. I like the mindset of it, expecting the unexpected.



Henrik Johan Ibsen was born on March 20,1828 in Skien,Norway. He died on May 23,1906 in Oslo,Norway. He was the oldest of five children born to Knud and Marichen Ibsen. His mother painted, played the piano and loved to go to the theater. His father was a Merchant. He showed himself off as becoming an artist as well. When Henrik was 8 his family went into poverty due to his fathers business. The family had to move to a farm. He spent time reading, painting and performing magic tricks.

At the age of 15, he had to stop school and go to work. For six years he worked as an apprentice in an apothecary in Grimstad. He wrote his first play Catilina in 1849 ( Great INFLUENCES William Shakespeare). He moved to Oslo to attend the University of Christiania. The upcoming year, Ibsen landed an encounter with a violinist and theater manager Ole Bull. He was offered a job to write and mange the Norwegian Theatre in Bergen. The title of the play "A Dolls House" may relate to the author because he liked making remakes of the Shakespeare plays.
